Presentations

We are always eager to share our many positive experiences in music therapy.  Our presentations cover various applications of music therapy, the theories behind music therapy, and some of our success stories. We offer FREE presentations to all parent support groups.

Our Foundation

In 2008 we created a 501(C)(3) foundation to help families offset the cost of music therapy services. Both full and partial scholarships are given. Monetary and used instrument donations are always welcome!

The Naturals

In 2007 we started The Naturals, a four piece band made up of two very talented individuals with autism. These young men are former students whose talents deserved to be heard. They have played many shows both local and national and have been featured on ABC 7, Chicago parent, and Autism one radio. They were chosen to perform in Washington D.C. to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Music is an inherently pleasurable composition of repetitive and predictible sequences and has a receptive, expressive and non-verbal communicative ability. It provides concurrent stimulation of both the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The liveliness of music increases neurological communication creatingfresh nerve pathways which assists the brain’s process of integrating and comprehending sensory stimuli. Music effects us on a physiological, emotional, and subconcious level and is a natural motivator.

What is music therapy?

A board certified music therapist uses music to stimulate improvement in various areas including:

  • speech and language development
  • memory
  • social skills
  • non-verbal communication
  • auditory processing
  • motor planning
  • gross and fine motor skills
  • sensory integration and regulation
  • self esteem

The music therapists at Creative Exchange have the skills and experience to draw upon a child’s interests to maximize success.

Our Clinic

At our clinic we conduct ongoing individual and group sessions as well as adaptive lessions on various instruments including guitar, trumpet, piano, drum set, and violin. During our summer session we offer more specific classes including a class that writes simple songs and makes a CD, a group guitar class, and a class that focuses on social skills.

Contractual Services

With nearly 20 years of experience contracting to schools, hospitals, special education cooperatives, and special recreation programs, we have developed various music based cirrucula for different school settings. We have also created tools to aid in communication and musical participation, and adaptive instruments to help the physically challenged. We are skilled at using age appropriate musical interventions to maximize client participation and overall benefit.
