Curtis Gaskins Scholarship for Music Therapy

The Curtis Gaskins Scholarship is given because "It's the Right Thing To Do."  The scholarship is given to candidate's that have demonstrated exceptional musical connections but due to personal or family related circumstances, Music Therapy services would not be possible without assistance.  Mr. Curtis Gaskins taught us to persevere when faced with aversion, guided by what you believe in your heart to be the right thing to do.

In Memory of Michelle Fahle

Michelle Fahle's love of music was first revealed in junior high as she quickly mastered the violin and joined the choir, performing in concerts and school musicals.  Like most teenagers, Michelle enjoyed pop bands, her iPod and Guitar Hero, but the choir became her passion as she moved on to high school.  Michelle's choir director recognized that devotion along with her compassion for others as he was quoted in the Naperville North High School newspaper:  "She had an enthusiasm and aura, allowing and encouraging those around her to be better guardians of the human spirit."  Many of Michelle's teachers also remember her for her kind heart and support to her classmates or neighborhood "underdog".

Marcus Johnson's Miracles in Music

Marcus Johnson's Miracles in Music grants are established and granted as the opportunity arises.  The grant is given when a specialized need presents itself and with a little creative thinking and coordinating, the need can be met.  Marcus was challenged with autism and during his second battle against leukemia, he was unable to return to school.  We were allowed the privilege of visiting Marcus at home and taking the music to him.  We were even able to take his entire class with us twice (thanks Joe Mohr!) to share music with his friends before he passed.

In Memory of King Klopfenstein

King Klopfenstein was a man who loved life.  He had a curiosity and interest in how thins worked.  This led him to become a mechanical engineer.  In his spare time he used these abilities to build bicycles for people with physical challenges so they could enjoy riding bikes with their family and friends.  He also enjoyed the arts.  He had a great eye for photography and liked to develop his own pictures.  He was a wonderful artist that loved to paint and draw.  King also had a passion for music.  He enjoyed all kinds of music.  He appreciated the effect that music has on people.  He believed that people could continue to grow and learn throughout their lives regardless of age or challenges.  He also believed in the importance and therapeutic effects of the arts on everyone.
