Kari and Craig Christiansen Creative Music Exchange
Dear Kari and Craig,
I am writing to commend you and your staff for the outstanding service you provide to the students who attend our school. Music therapy has been an integral part of our school therapy program for several years. You and your staff show a deep care and concern for our students, even though they can be difficult at times.
Students participate in weekly small group sessions where they are exposed to a variety of musical instruments as well as vocal music. Through my office door I can hear students playing the piano, and singing along to the songs that the Creative Exchange music therapists are teaching. Our students truly enjoy theses sessions and carry the songs over into the rest of their day at school.
Many of our students also use the techniques that they have been taught in music therapy to relieve their stress and reduce their anxiety during the day. Playing a drum beat or humming a familiar song can be very calming. I have often observed students using these techniques independently during the day.
The music therapists are also an integral part of our school celebrations. They take on key roles in graduation, prom, the Thanksgiving POW WOW, the holiday program, and the spring celebration. The students light up and enthusiastically participate when they are able to sing-a-long as part of these special days.
Thank you for the joyful service you provide to our students. You and your staff enrich the lives of our students through your music, and your heartfelt care.
